The Tutu Project

I had seen these man in a tutu photographs on a few occasions and they certainly caught my attention…how could they not…but I only recently learned the significance behind these crazy photos. The man in the tutu’s name is Bob Carey. The pictures, now the cornerstone to a larger breast cancer fundraising effort, initially started as a joke of sorts. When Carey’s wife was undergoing treatment for breast cancer, however, he continued the series as a means of bringing laughter and silliness to an otherwise dark and serious moment in their lives. Titled ‘The Tutu Project,’ the photographs can be purchased as postcards, prints and a newly released book called “Ballerina.” Carey is not only a good sport, but his efforts to lift his wife’s spirits and raise money for breast cancer are both sweet and admirable.

Carey says of his wife, “During these past nine years, I’ve been in awe of her power, her beauty, and her spirit. Oddly enough, her cancer has taught us that life is good, dealing with it can be hard, and sometimes the very best thing—no, the only thing—we can do to face another day is to laugh at ourselves, and share a laugh with others.”
