These doughnuts are really delicious, but I will warn you this is kind of a timely process. They are not difficult to make, believe it or not, but there are quite a few steps and you have to wait for the dough to rise 2x, which adds another hour and a half to your prep time. BUT, they’re worth the wait.

  • Cinnamon– I used this doughnut recipe but instead of glaze I just rolled the doughnuts in 1 part cinnamon mixed with 2 parts sugar.

  • Chocolate Glazed– I also made this chocolate topping, which was amazing, by the way. Then, I chopped some hazelnuts and sprinkled them on top for a little extra pizzaz.

If you can contain yourself and not eat all of these fried rings of heaven, you can make a gorgeous Fall hostess/teacher/thank you gift. Who doesn’t want a stack of homemade donuts? Umm…nobody. I stacked mine in a Quaker Oats container, which I wrapped in newspaper and ribbon (see photos below). Gorgeous!

** You’re supposed to use a doughnut cutter but I didn’t have one so I used a wine glass and a water bottle cap. It worked just fine.                                                                                                                                                         ** TIP: after you shape the doughnuts, lay them on greased parchment paper to rise. Then, when you go to fry, just cut out the parchment paper around each donut and drop the entire thing into the oil. Grab the paper out of the oil immediately after you drop it in. This will keep the doughnuts from losing air when you touch them.
